Is it important what version of LimeShare Pro I use?

Yes, as a matter of fact, using the latest version of LimeShare Pro allows users to enjoy the best program functionality. The bugs and errors our users have reported in older versions have been fixed for our latest version. Also, please note our software will automatically notify you if there is a new version available.

The installation process freezes at “Installing Java”.

This error is caused by the the Java installer. To solve this, please uninstall any previous version of LimeShare Pro and Java Runtime Environment from the Add/Remove Programs located in the Control Panel, point your browser to and install Java latest version, and only then install LimeShare Pro.

When I try to start LimeShare Pro nothing happens.

First check to make sure that LimeShare Pro is not already running in your system tray, next to the clock. If you see it, click on the program icon to restore it.

If you can not locate the software icon, it means that you may have accidentally uninstalled it. Please update to the latest version of LimeShare Pro by downloading the installer here.

If LimeShare Pro is not running and you are sure that it is still installed on your Windows system, then the Java client might be corrupted. To address this problem, please update the Java Runtime Environment, uninstall our software, download the latest version and then restart the installation process.

When I try to start the program I get “LimeShare Pro was unable to initialize”.

Some security software are designed to block loop-back connections for all programs on your PC unless an exception has been previously created. For instance, if you are running Norton Antivirus, try to search for the Internet Worm Protection feature, and add LimeShare Pro to the list of exceptions.

What types of files can I search for and share using LimeShare Pro?

LimeShare Pro can virtually search for any type of file, allowing its users to share audio, video, and program files, books, photos and the list goes on.

I can not find the file I am looking for.

The content of the Gnutella network consists solely of files which people running Gnutella software are sharing and if no one is sharing that particular file then you won't be able to find it using LimeShare Pro.

Since the entire Gnutella network isn't always reached with each search, searching for the same thing a second time may give you more results. The Gnutella network is continuously growing. Basically, the more people use the Gnutella network, the more good content will be available to everyone.

LimeShare Pro is capable of downloading files from different host computers at the same time through a process called swarming. Swarming will enable our software to download at much higher speeds since each host adds to the total download speed.

Download Messages

Connected - You are connected to the host, LimeShare Pro prepares the file download.
Downloading from number host - Indicates how many hosts you are swarming from. The higher the better.
Verifying File Contents - After the file finishes downloading, the program must rearrange the parts and check that the file integrity.
Saving File - After the file is verified, it gets transferred from a temporary download location to your Save Folder.
Complete - Your file is now in your Save Folder and ready to be used.
Content Removed - The file you attempted to download was flagged inappropriate for sharing.
Need More Sources – The application is not able to download the file because all known hosts are unavailable for different reasons.
Awaiting Sources - The same as "Need More Sources" with the only difference being that you clicked the Find More Sources button without waiting to find more sources.
Queued - You reached the maximum number of simultaneous downloads as specified in the Options, and the file is placed in a local queue. You can either wait for other downloads to finish or you can increase the maximum number of simultaneous downloads.
Waiting for Stable Connections – LimeShare Pro is unable to check for more sources because you are not connected to the Gnutella network or your connection is unstable. Connect to the Gnutella network and try again.
File Corrupted – LimeShare Pro detected a corruption in the file.
Recovering Corrupted File – The software will try to fix a corrupted file.

Tips to boost downloads

- Make your searches as specific as possible to get the most pertinent search results.
- When selecting a file for download, choose the file with the most sources in the "#" column.
- If possible, download multiple versions of the same file simultaneously because one could get you more sources.
- Repeat the search for the same file while the download is in progress. LimeShare Pro will automatically add new sources to the current download.
- Disconnect from the network, then reconnect, and try the search again. Cycling through ultrapeers helps you reach more parts of the network.

WARNING: Please bear in mind that executable files may contain viruses, spyware, or other malware.

Some files take too long to download

The speed at which a download takes place is limited by both your bandwidth and by the bandwidth of the uploader. A file can not be downloaded faster than the uploader is capable of sending it, nor can it be transferred faster than the downloader is capable of receiving it. So, if you have a fast Internet connection and you are trying to download a file from a person with a slow connection, your transfer is going to take place rather slowly.

I am behind a firewall

LimeShare Pro will work when a user is behind a firewall, but will also encounter connection problems with certain type of firewalls. We strongly recommend adding LimeShare Pro to your firewall exceptions list. In general, if you see the message connected, in the connection status of the lower left corner, you should be able to download and upload files.

How to avoid downloading fake files?

Some servers on the Gnutella network serve advertisements with false filenames to fake popular search results. If you find yourself downloading search results, you can stop receiving search results from that host by simply right clicking the search result and selecting Block User option.

Additionally, you can mark suspicious search results as junk by selecting them, right clicking and selecting Junk. If a file has been marked as junk but proves to be a valid search result, you can always unmark it following the same previous steps. LimeShare Pro will learn over time which search results are valid and filter out the spam results accordingly.

Exiting LimeShare Pro during active downloads

If you exit the program, any downloads that were in progress will terminate at this time. Rest assured, these downloads will resume the next time you start the application.
